The Adventure Begins
I think careful cooking is love, don’t you? The loveliest thing you can cook for someone who’s close to you is about as nice a valentine as you can give. — Julia Child
I really love my family. I am blessed with an incredible husband, soul-filling children, and wonderful parents, siblings, grandparents, in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins…And I also lucked out with friends who make me stronger, lift me up, and keep me grounded.
So what does this have to do with my journey to starting my own bakery? I don’t have a lick of Italian blood in me, but the amount of satisfaction I get from loving others with food is comparable to the delight of effecting a smile on a child. If you come to my home, I will make you eat (if I like you). My love language is food.
Thus the intersection of my love for people and my love for baking.
So when friends and family–and actually, strangers–kept telling me I could make a business out of this, the idea percolated in my head for months. Of course, as many stay-at-home mothers consider, I grappled with whether or not I could give my children the love and attention they need and deserve while successfully carrying out all that is entailed in a successful baking business. I came up with a plan that works for our family with the unyielding support of my husband (right down to the details of washing endless baking dishes for me).
And here we are. My children are chasing each other around the island in my kitchen as we speak, and it’s time I close my laptop and spend time with them.
